UK SME AI Readiness Index
A public record of how UK organisations use AI, read from what they have published themselves. Each organisation is scored 0–100 on five dimensions, and every score that appears carries a source URL you can open and check.
What this Index is
It is an observation of a public footprint. We read what an organisation has put into the world — its site, its job adverts, its policies, its write-ups — and record what that material shows about how it works with AI.
It is not an audit. It does not describe anything an organisation has kept private, and a low score on a dimension means the public signal was thin, not that the work is not happening.
Any organisation can ask to be taken out. The request needs no account and no proof of identity, and the record stops resolving from the next request onwards.
The five dimensions
Prompting
How the organisation communicates with AI systems — the context, structure and constraints it gives them.
Public signal
Published prompts, prompt guidance, prompt libraries, documented AI briefing practice.
Tooling
Which AI tools the organisation uses and how deliberately it selects them.
Public signal
Named tools in job adverts, engineering blogs, case studies, integration and partner listings.
Workflow Integration
How far AI is embedded in routine work rather than used ad hoc.
Public signal
Descriptions of AI-assisted processes, product changelogs, internal-tooling write-ups, role definitions.
Critical Judgement
How the organisation evaluates AI output — checking accuracy, handling error, and deciding when not to use AI.
Public signal
Published AI policies, review and escalation processes, risk or assurance statements, disclosure notes.
Confidence & Momentum
The organisation's stated confidence with AI and the direction of travel over time.
Public signal
Hiring patterns, training commitments, roadmap statements, repeated public updates on AI work.

Evidence rules
- Every published claim carries a public source URL that anyone can open and check.
- Scores are read from an organisation's public footprint. Nikksi does not use private or purchased data for this Index.
- A dimension with insufficient public signal is published as null and labelled "insufficient public signal". It is never estimated, inferred or filled in.
- Scoring describes what a public footprint shows at the time it was read. It is an observation of published material, not an audit of the organisation.
- Any organisation can request removal from the Index. Removal takes effect on the next request, without needing to prove identity.

Every page here has a machine-readable twin. The API is open, needs no key, and sends Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *. Attribution is the only condition: CC BY 4.0 — attribution with a link to nikksi.com required
Cite as https://www.nikksi.com/readiness-index. Records carry a scored_at date and can be withdrawn by their subject, so check the live endpoint rather than repeating a cached copy.
